PROJECT SUMMARY: According to preliminary data the area contains over 3,000,000,000 tons of iron ore. JATAPU IRON ORE reserves has a long history beginning 1950 when sedimentary iron ore mineralization was discovered by PETROBRAS during the geologic reconnaissance in this area. In the 70's one of the largest projects in Brazil was created: SIDERAMA – The Amazonian Steel Company from SIDERBRAS Group.
At that point in time, it was announced that at least 50 million metric tons in proven deposits had been found, while the research indicated that there was much more than that. After sampling was made during the third expedition (2001), all necessary work was done to formalize the announcement of proven reserves of 250 million tons in only 2 areas out of 18, with estimates of total reserves exc
